The role

You will be working on the next generation of Cloud based Enterprise Procurement Software, using modern frameworks and standards in a senior, tight knit team based in our Exeter HQ, with additional team members distributed across Europe.

The development & QA teams deliver our platform and technical roadmap using SCRUM techniques with regular 2 week sprint cycles, releasing to production at the end of every sprint.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering you will be responsible for all DevOps / TechOps within the business. Specifically:

  • Managing the Production Platform infrastructure on AWS
  • Managing and developing the tools and infrastructure for the Development, QA, Deployment and support of the platform.
  • Helping determine the root-cause of platform problems and leading the resolution of technical issues
  • Staying up to date with modern standards to feed in to the Technology Roadmap.
  • Using your experience and knowledge help the company maintain high, consistent standards and to clarify implementation details with them as questions arise

Your working day will be split between:

  • Manage the current production infrastructure and ensuring the platform is running well and servicing our customers and in-house users.
  • Manage and evolve our development infrastructure of Docker Containers & Continuous Integration to enable the development & qa teams to deliver regular improvements to production.
  • Developing our next generation infrastructure based on Kubernetes.

As the business grows, the role has future potential for leadership responsibilities for the right candidate.

Ideally you have:

  • A passion for DevOps / TechOps and a pride in the infrastructure you craft
  • At least 1 year managing a production cloud based web-application
  • Knowledge and experience of managing a modern cloud environment:
    • AWS Suite especially
      • EC2, S3, Route 53, CloudWatch, VPC, Security Groups
    • Deployment Technologies
      • Docker, phpci (or similar – eg Bamboo or Jenkins)
    • Application Level
      • HAProxy, Nginx, PHP (esp Laravel), NodeJS, MYSQL, Logging
    • Infrastructure Development / Management
      • Bash Scripting, SSH Management
    • Monitoring
      • Nagios / icinga2
    • Network / Security infrastructure
      • VPN Configuration, SSL Certificate
  • Knowledge and experience of managing a development & deployment infrastructure:
    • Backlog & Issue tracking system
    • Git Repos & gitflow(BitBucket)
    • Continuous Integration (eg phpci, bamboo or jenkins)
    • Docker Registry with Portus authentication
    • PHPStorm / WebStorm development environments
    • PHP, Composer, NodeJS, npm, XDebug
  • Experience of Diagnosing Issues and a knack for problem solving
    • Network traffic analysis
    • MySQL analysis
    • Log Analysis
    • Methodical approach and discipline for documenting

These will help you stand out:

  • Experience with any of the following:
    • Kubernetes
    • Confd
    • RDS
    • PHP Symfony or Zend
    • AngularJS / ReactJS
    • Atlassian suite experience
    • Knowledge of REST / HATEOAS

Minimum required qualifications:

  • Bachelor in Computer Science or related engineering or technical discipline.
  • Native English speaker or full professional proficiency at CEF level C1 or above.
